Lullingstone Roman Villa was discovered in 1939, although there has been knowledge of Roman occupation since the turn of the 18th century. A tessellated pavement was recorded and it was noted that Lullingstone Church (now demolished) contained much Roman brick and tile. Excavations commenced after the war in 1949, and in 1958 the site was taken into the guardianship of the ‘Ministry of Works and Ancient Monuments’. Once excavated Lullingstone Roman Villa was preserved by the erection of a protective building, and was opened to the public in 1963.

Lullingstone Roman Villa is believed to have been constructed in AD75, originally using timber and daub, being reconstructed of stone in the 2nd century. As is often the case with buildings that survive several centuries, Lullingstone Roman Villa underwent many improvements during its lifetime. The site uncovered many treasures during the excavations: these included Christian wall paintings, found on parts of the cellar walls, and many fragments of wall plaster which have subsequently been painstakingly reconstructed to show many of the murals that once adorned the now collapsed walls.

The central spectacle, however, is the Mosaic floor in the dining room which has two main sections. In the apse, there is a scene depicting the ‘Rape of Europa by Jupiter’, and in the main area another shows ‘Bellerophon riding Pegasus killing the Chimaera’, a fire breathing lion-like monster. In the corners of the main panel there are three heads in circles (there used to be four) depicting the faces of the four seasons.

Between the two main sections are numerous geometric designs, including several Swastikas. The main complex contained some 26 rooms, and excavations have shown a further four rooms away from the main complex. These are believed to be a semi circular shrine, a Mausoleum, a kitchen and a granary. Lullingstone Roman Villa is believed to have been largely destroyed by fire early in the 5th century and no further signs of occupation have been found after AD420. This is some ten years after the Roman occupation of Britain had ceased.

Here in UK some of the finest Italian mosaic floors are inside the Bank of England - made by Italian artists of the 1920s - I’ve worked in there and seen them - magnificent art works.

A real Roman mosaic was found beneath the Bank of England - it’s on display at the British Museum.
Built round three sides of a central courtyard. They had underfloor heating and loos/bogs/johns.
Flooring was usually mosaic tiles. There would be a shrine to the ‘house’ gods. Never been to Lullingstone, but I’m sure you can get information through your search engine.
Just had a look! Loads of information. Just type in Lullingstone Roman Villa.
I’m going to Waterloo for the first time with my friend and was trying to find out what shops there are there or if there are any parks nearby, something fun to do. I’m not a tourist so i don’t want to visit London Bridge etc (As close to Waterloo Station as possible please)

Any help is appreciated, Thanks ^_^

There is an IMAX cinema just north of the station, there is a theatre to the south "The Old Vic". Walk alongside the river eastwards to find the market atmosphere of Coin Street or HMS Belfast (a preserved warship). There are some interesting bookshops in Baylis Road and Lower Marsh. You could take a river trip from the pier near the London Eye.

What forces motivate a person to become suicide bomber and kill people in the name of religion? read details?
At least 54 people have been killed and 106 injured by a female suicide bomber in north-east Baghdad, an interior ministry spokesman has said.

The woman detonated an explosives vest among a group of pilgrims making the journey to Karbala, 80km from Baghdad. A witness described seeing a fireball. The Shia pilgrims were marking Arbaeen, the end of 40 days of mourning for the death of Prophet Muhammad’s grandson.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100201/ap_o n_re_mi_ea/ml_iraq

 Hello,

The direct motivation for people risking their lives (in the name of religion "apparently") is that they live lives they want to escape. Often times when a person seeks to kill themselves through these bombings there is a wider picture that needs to be analyzed.

Amongst Palestinians for instance, those that are driven to become suicide bombers are those that have had their land, parents, and everything and everyone they knew and loved taken away from them. At the end, life becomes not worth living, and a purpose or struggle is undertaken to get rid of it.

What is the meaning of suicide? Well, it is when a person kills themselves either because a) they feel they have nothing to live for or b) because they are in dire need of help but don’t know how to find it.

I feel that these people are no exceptions. They dislike life, the war-torn regions in which they live in, and unfortunately use religion as an excuse to justify the horid acts they engage in. At the end they are not really serving a religious purpose (as you will find that many suicide bombers are not religious at all) but more of a cultural or sociopolitical one.

It’s a complex scenario and a sad one at that. Sometimes they kill innocent people which is horrible, and at other times it’s seen as a symbol to start political changes in which case it is somewhat more justified.

*Please note, I am not advocating suicide bombing because I am a strong disbeliever of the act. All I am listing are some underlying reasons I believe bombers possessing for doing what they do.*

PLEASE help me out i dont know how to handle this. i would really appreciate it so much?
hey everyone,
so today has been a pretty emotional day.
so last night i was with my boyfriend at a party and his ex girlfriend was there.
well he was throwing a beer can away he hit her head by mistake and we both burst out laughing, it was so funny. well she went up to him and was like you need to kiss my head and he was like uhh no and then she went to me and was like do you care if he does and i was like its up to him, ( because i thought he wouldnt do that ) well he did right after i said it but apparently he hit her with his nose. then she put her hand on his neck and was leaning on him and i was just getting really upset because i couldnt beileve he wasnt telling her to get off and i how he kissed her. then after that everything went back to normal and today we talked it out but im still upset about it. Then tonight we were on the phone haveing a normal conversation and then it led to me talking about something in my past that was very sensitive to me and it was a huge story that i was talking for about 20 min striaight. well after i was done i heard no responce. he fell alseep on me.
I called him back and asked him if he heard and he said he forgot. ARE YOU SERIOUS?! i didnt know how to respond i was so blown away that he did that. i was so hurt on top of just getting over last night with his ex. i told him that im going to go and that i loved him and then ended the call and then i started crying for awhile, it made me feel so low and shitty about myself.
what do you think i should do about this situation like how can i get him to realize he really hurt me?
iwe have been dating for 8 months now and i love him, a lot hes never been like this before, hes usually this sweet guy who is so caring but i dont know how i should react towards him, should i just get over all of this and move on? bu if i do will he do this again? im not sure.. i would really really apreciate the help
thankyou.

Have a good night’s sleep tonight. It’s not helpful to dwell upon it while you’re so emotional.

Tomorrow, behave normally and see what happens. If he doesn’t ask about these anymore, then let the issue rest. If he asks about what you said, you’re in a position to repeat the story more calmly, which will be good.

I don’t think that there’s any biggy in these situations. You can always share your sensitive matter with him another time, when he’s awake to listen.

Smile and good night.

What D&D starting armor should I use?
I’m still making my character, a minotaur, and i’m not sure on what armor and weapons i should equip it with, or how i would go about it. like, is there a way you figure out what armor you use, like, rolling dice, or what?
also, would my character be labelled as large, huge, or collossial?

it depends what your DM allows, sometimes he’ll just give you like, peasent armor to start with and tell you to earn money an buy better stuff, most of the time though you roll for your starting gold and he’ll just let you "go to the store" (check the players manual for prices :P) and grab whatever you think you’ll need for adventuring, if you do this (I don’t know what class you are or what version you’re playing so it’s a little difficult to help here) but basically get the best armor/weapons you can afford, unless you’re a druid or some other class that specifically bans certain kinds of armor (druid’s can’t take any metal as I think or they lose their druid-ness) again, check your players manual for these kinds of restrictions, typically though, if you’re a fighting class (fighter, barbarian etc.) you should be fine with the best that you can afford.

but again, the golden rule in D&D is, if you’re not sure and it’s not in the players handbook, ask your DM, remember, he’s basically your god

 | Jan 19, 2010

I assumed your playing DnD 3.0/3.5

This depends on a number of factors some things to remember are.

Armor limits how much of your Dexterity bonus you can use for dodging attacks
Armor can limit your base move making it harder to move around the battle field Heavier tends to slow you down.
Armor also gives you penalties to some physical abilities (Armor check penalties) and spellcasting based on how heavy/bulky it is. (Thus few mages in full-plate)

Heavy armor is never caught by surprised so if your suddenly attacked (and dont have something that lets you keep your Dexterity’s +Dodge bonus to AC) your armor class will not drop for being flat footed, so your not easier to hit when off guard.
Light armor tends to be cheaper (Full-plate cost 1000gp, padded leather cost 5gp, however those are the opposite ends of the spectrum)
Medium armor mixes a bit of both

I suggest you find your Dex bonus, and figure out how to best use it, Just make sure to get your AC as high as is feasible as not getting hit is the only thing better than being able to take a hit.

Note;
Being a non-Human i would expect to pay more than the listed cost as those cost assumes that you can take "Off the shelf" armors, many will have to be adjusted to your bulk and odd shape.
AimlessSage | Jan 20, 2010

For armor, that depends mainly on:

1) what armor types you’re proficient with (which, unless you want to burn a feat, is dependent on your character class) and can afford
2) your strength (for a minotaur, probably not a consideration) and/or (in 4E) constitution
3) whether you want your Dex (or, if 4E, Int) to add in to your AC
4) whether you are concerned about your armor penalty to certain skills

For weapons, the considerations are:

1) like armor, what you’re proficient with and can afford
2) whether you want to fight from a distance (ranged weapons) or up close and personal (melee). While you will likely tend to do one or the other most of the time, chances are you want at least one of each for when the situation warrants it.
3) whether you want to carry something in your off-hand (shield, secondary weapon, etc.) or not. If not, a 2-handed melee weapon as a rule will do more damage and some of them also have reach (can strike things not immediately adjacent to you).
4) feats that you plan to take right now as well as those you intend to take eventually (these can make you hit harder, strike more accurately, cause additional effects like knock a foe prone, etc.)
TheMadProfessor | Jan 20, 2010

The first three people covered the answer quite well about armor. But there is one thing about weapons they didn’t cover. Because you’re going to be a Minotaur, the weapon has to be "Large" otherwise you’ll break it..
